There is no greater time than now to create solutions

In current times it’s easy to see why there is stress in the commercial market, businesses have been closed down all over the place, mortgages are being put on hold and the ripple effect is more like a tidal wave.

Landlords now have the opportunity to work with tenants and create collaborative results to either add additional tenancies or recreate working space that is more effective and productive.  This can be done in all industries and asset classes.  It takes a desire for something better and a creative way of thinking. Not all opportunities will have an initial impact, however it will mean that the re-open is new and exciting, creating new experiences for people to enjoy while looking after tenants. There are collaborations that will have a great impact instantly, and for those situations there is the opportunity to write the future changes in many industries.

Tenants and owner operators have a golden opportunity to bring industry leaders into their business, create collaborative spaces, bounce new ideas and expand their business models ready to relaunch. I see a lot more shared space and people working together, teams growing businesses and supporting the industries they love, while making successful choices based on current challenges.  Cracks in systems and pressure points that have been exposed during the recent 2020 crisis have resulted in an understanding that we will all be looking for new experiences in the very near future.

So what normally stops us? It seems we are seeing a “we” and “them” situation unfold, and a lack of equal playing fields, but that is all about to change. The current crisis leaves no one out, there is not an industry, race, religion or status that is immune from the effect of this, however, the survival rate will depend on the ability to work together, to create new ways to operate and understanding how to meet the market’s needs in the future.

The shutdowns have given us the time to reassess our businesses, look at how to better serve others and given us the greatest opportunity to bring some of the best within industries together and draw on each other’s passion.

I for one am in the thick of a few industries that have been hit very hard, however find myself very busy pivoting and working with tenants and vendors to create new and exciting ways of operating and delivering experiences that serve the community now, and will be scalable in the future.

There is no greater time than now to express your passion and be a part of a very big picture, so don’t back away from commercial property based on the recent impacts, step up and be a solution while establishing yourself in a valuable industry.

Until next time, bring out your vision
